Preliminary exercise LR -
'Preliminary exercise learner response'
1) Type up your teacher's feedback in full plus a summary of the comments you received from other students in the class.
Teacher's feedback -
WWW; Good use of filters as in post-production work is done well, use of titles in the music video. Good set for location. The time-lapse and editing was done well, the camera shots as in camera pans and great use of concept.
EBI; The movement of the pan should be shorten out, needs to more smoother pans. You should make it more voyeuristic for the audience (POV), watch more 80's music videos for inspiration, play around with more effects that fits with the pop culture back in the 80's.
2) Using a combination of your own reflection on the preliminary exercise and the feedback you were given, write three WWW bullet points and three EBI bullet points for your MV.
3 WWW; One thing I did well for this preliminary exercise was the my post-production work such as editing. Another positive feedback for my MV would be the use of Mise-en-scene I used to portray an 80's pop music video. The last positive feedback I would give myself for this task for would be the variety of camera shots I used in under a minute which shows the flexibility and range when creating the actual music video.
3 EBI; One thing I would improve on would be to smoother out my camera shots as some can be seen as shaky and tilted. Another thing I would improve on would be to incorporate a performance element into the music video next time. The last thing I would improve on for next time would be play around with different affects to see what works well with my music video.
3) How effectively did you complete the objective you laid out in your mini preliminary exercise statement of intent.
Personally, I believe that the objective I laid out in my statement of intent was met firmly with some parts taken out due to covid regulations and it not fitting my concept and theme I was going for.
4) What have you learned from the preliminary exercise that will help you in the actual coursework project?
I have learnt that flexibility with shots would help a lot in the grand scheme of things as I can add and mix around with different editing tools to help convey a narrative. This exercise helped me gain insight on the small errors I would make.
5) Now you have completed the preliminary exercise, will you change anything in your actual music video? This could include the narrative or performance element or technical elements such as mise-en-scene, camerawork or editing.
Yes, in my music video I will change a couple of things and these being adding a performance element and looking at more 80's themed music videos so see what type of editing filters they used to make mine seem with that aesthetic. The camera work I would change too by adding a variety of different shots to fit the suspense and horror theme with linked the lyrics to the MV.
